March For Life
Dear Church Family,
The annual March for Life in Washington DC is just around the corner, Thursday, January 22nd. We have been invited to ride along with St. Ferdinand Catholic Church so I need to find out now who among want to go this year. The cost is $20 with $5 for each additional family member. This includes bus transportation and Metro tickets. Each person needs to have a sack lunch for the trip over and $10.00 for dinner at Country Buffet after we march. We usually leave St. Ferd's about 6:15 AM and get back around midnight. It is a long day. The weather can be quite mild or cold and snowing. The actual march is about 1/4 mile this year. I believe this march is important. It is an opportunity to witness, to teach and learn compassion. I believe that God call his people to be light and salt in our culture. Life is sacred. Our nation continues to harden its heart towards this fundamental truth. We have the chance to stand with others who understand the sanctity of life. We have the chance to show our lawmakers that we believe that life is sacred and they should too.
An important part of training our children is helping them see that there are consequences to their behavior. It is very important that our children see that not only is life sacred but that sex itself is sacred; a gift from God. Our children are living in a culture that does not teach or honor this truth. The march provides an opportunity for our children to see a bigger picture of sex. It is awful and tragic that so many of our teens end their pregnancies with abortion.
Finally, we are the people of the God of all compassion. Going on the march has helped me think about how many of our women have had abortions and what they may live with. Many of these women are racked with regret, confusion and guilt over past decisions. They need understanding and compassion. We should be a people who are prepared to bring the love of God and His gospel to them. So the march is an opportunity to witness and to teach.
This may not be the right time for you and your family to attend. Then again, it may be just the right time. For more information about the March for Life go to
